Inch by Inch

Trying to keep up with a child's growing feet can be expensive. But one inventor claims to have found the solution - shoes that grow with the feet.

The INCHworm trainers use a technology called iFit to expand up to one full size. They are altered by pressing a button on the side and pulling the toe out to the required length.

Each pair goes up in two half-size increments, which means that each offers three sizes.

According to the makers, the shoes are sturdy enough that they won't stretch accidentally and can withstand the roughest of playground workouts. They are not cheap, at $96.

For now, they're being sold in England.

Wanted: Dead IPODS

One man's dead 'tronics' is another's treasure.

In fact, one fella (Brett Mosley) says, "Most don't realize that there is another place for dead iPods besides a trash can."

He runs BuyMyTronics.com-- where he looks to buy broken iPods. He says he buys most models for "$30 to $50".

He says he's basically a middleman who tries to buy from original owners and re-sell to distributors who in turn will likely sell the iPods online.

(There are similar sites with similar offers. BuyMyTronics.com and companies like RapidRepair.com are seeking dead iPods.)

Are Men Better Online Shoppers? retailers Say So

Retail analysts say men may make better e-shoppers. Research shows that men tend to make decisions faster. They also return 10% fewer items and spend $900 per quarter on average.

Now...top retailers are re-designing their Web sites to attract and keep male customers.

Examples-- for the first time, and only for the guys, Banana Republic is using moving models to show off the fit of its pants.

Saks and Brooks Brothers now make images load faster to keep up with men's need for speed.

And at Neiman Marcus, the men's section now features more items and is easier to navigate.

(Retailers say that changes like these are getting results.)

Astounding Facts From Our Planet

Today is EARTH DAY, first celebrated April 22, 1970. It is a day to celebrate and renew our commitment to keep the world a clean and healthy place for ourselves and future generations.

Working against us is the fact that the number of automobiles in the world will increase by 50% over the next 22 years. According to Chevron, the world uses 2 barrels of oil for every one barrel of oil discovered. By 2030, the world will consume 47% more oil than it did in 2003.

~~ The five warmest years over the last century are 2005, 1998, 2002, 2003 and 2004.

~~ Each gallon of gasoline burned creates 20 pounds of CO2 (that's carbon dioxide to us regular folks).

Obviously, EARTH DAY has it's work cut out for itself. However, recycling and investing in hybrid vehicles are listed as some of the biggest steps we can take to save our planet.

Texting Is Turning Us Into Wimps!

Technology is making many of us cowards when it comes to breaking up with a partner or firing staff. Researchers found that more people choose to send email or text messages to keep a "digital distance" when relaying bad news to colleagues.

~~ More than seven out of ten surveyed admit delegating difficult tasks at work by email and text.

~~ More than half also use a text or email message to apologize for a workplace mistake.

~~ One in eight workers has resigned via a text message or email,

~~ while 2 per cent of bosses have fired someone with a digital communication.

The (British) survey also reveals that 3 per cent of adults admit to ending a relationship by text message in the past 12 months.

Hippies, Yuppies and Now "Scuppies"

Meet the "scuppies": socially conscious upwardly mobile persons.

They eat, drink and sleep organic. They think it's easy being green. They want to live well while doing good.

One fella (Chuck Failla) runs a successful New York/Connecticut financial planning firm, and he's a do-gooder, offering his services free to non-profit groups. He says he invented this latest neologism 10 years ago when he was a yuppie stockbroker (Armani suit and Rolex) doing pro bono work for a homeless organization.

He "wondered, why can't we be socially conscious and upwardly mobile at the same time?"

He's now published "The Scuppie Manifesto" on his website (scuppie.com). He plans to officially launch the scuppie movement on Earth Day, April 22, and he's aiming for Christmas to bring out his book, "The Scuppie Handbook", a takeoff on 1980's The Official Preppie Handbook. (Profits will go to charity.)

Why Men Hate Advice and Women Can't Park

A new book claims to have found scientific explanations for why women can’t reverse park, and men cannot multi-task.

According to 'Why Men Don't Listen and Women Can't Read Maps', differences in the wiring of male and female brains affect the way we perceive the world and each other.

~~ The authors say that while more than 70 percent of men can park in reverse, only a quarter of women can accomplish this feat. And although women are actually better at learning tasks, the authors claim that in real-life situations the part of the brain devoted to spatial awareness becomes overwhelmed.

~~ While women can talk on the phone, do the ironing, and watch television at the same time, men find it difficult to concentrate on anything more taxing than watching the football. This is because the area connecting the right part of the brain to the left is thicker in women, allowing more ideas to flow.

~~ Women find it harder to immediately distinguish their left hand from their right, because they use both sides of their brain at the same time.

~~ Men have a dominant side of the brain, making it easier for them to tell one hand from the other instantly.

~~ The male reluctance to ask for directions when they are clearly lost is said to go back to prehistoric times. When the male role was to keep the family safe, showing weakness would been seen as failure.

~~ And finally, women really do have a sixth sense when it comes to judging other women’s intentions. The authors claim that the female ability to judge whether another woman is happy in their relationship or on the look out for a new partner, relates to them having to stop other women stealing their mates.

Welcome to the World of Googlegangers

If you Google your name, you may find articles about people that aren’t you. These people that share your name are called Google twins or Googlegangers.

But some people have formed online bonds with their Googlegangers.

Experts say it’s implicit egoism or, the name-letter theory. People possess an unconscious desire to be close to people, places and things that possess similar qualities to their names.

Most Adults Can't Spell Everyday Words

A new survey found that most adults can't spell everyday words, and they blame their cell phones and technology. A lot of adults in a random survey got stumped by words like "calendar," "embarrass" and "questionnaire."

Of the 20 words in the survey, "questionnaire" stumped 40 percent of adults, while "accommodate" and "definitely" were both misspelled 38 percent of the time. Two-thirds of the adults in the survey blamed technology… especially cell phone ‘text speak’.

Other numbers:

• 59 percent said they rely heavily on computer spell-checkers.

• One in five adults avoids handwriting letters or notes because of poor spelling.

• Six percent said under-par spelling caused them to lose a job, and another 8 percent said they think they had been passed over for a promotion because of it.

Spring Cleaning: The Top 10 Highest Calorie-Burning Chores

Here is a list of the top 10 highest calorie-burning chores… the good news is that the more you clean, the more calories you'll burn through.

10. Dust and polish (burn 2,288 calories per year). Light dusting burns about 170 calories per hour (assuming you weigh 150 pounds) heavy dusting burns 204 calories per hour.

9. Change the bedding (burn 2,728 calories per year). You can burn 136 calories per hour. Of course, none of us will take an hour to make the bed, but even at 15 minutes, you've burned enough calories to make up for half a glass of wine.

8. Clean the bathroom (burn 2,891 calories per year). You can burn at least 231 calories per hour.

7. Sweep the floor (burn 2,896 calories per year). This activity burns 272 calories per hour.

6. Tidy up (burn 4,541 calories per year). Even a light tidying up lets you burn over 170 calories per hour. Step it up and you can get it to over 240 calories burned per hour.

5. Scrub the floor (burn 5,117 calories per year). You'll burn about 258 calories per hour, enough to make up for a serving of chicken nuggets.

4. Wash and dry the dishes (burn 6,781 calories per year). Give that dishwasher a rest and do your dishes by hand. You'll burn 156 calories per hour, just for standing and washing the dishes but if you dry them by hand and put them away, you'll get even more bang for your buck.

3. Iron your clothes (burn 6,794 calories per year). You can burn about 156 calories per hour.

2. Vacuum the floor (burn 6,800 calories per year). Vacuuming burns about 238 calories per hour, but you can get more out of it by vacuuming the couches and pillows.

1. Do the laundry (burn 9,464 calories per year). Doing the laundry only burns about 150 calories per hour, but because it takes a while to go through several loads (especially if you have kids or major cleaning to do), the calories burned do add up.

EXTRAS: If you have outside space, you can burn even more calories by gardening (246 calories per hour), raking (264 calories per hour), or mowing the lawn (a whopping 363 calories per hour).

Nomophobia----The Fear Of Being Out of Cell Phone Range

Does it seem like you, or someone you know, freak out when you're out of cell phone range?

Millions apparently suffer from "no mobile phobia" which has been given the name nomophobia. (The 'mo' meaning mobile phone.)

These addicted gadget freaks have become so dependent on their mobile that discovering it is out of charge or simply misplacing it sends stress levels soaring.

Experts say nomophobia could affect up to 53 per cent of mobile phone users.

Researchers advise those looking to avoid nomophobia to carry a charger at all times, give family and friends an alternative contact number and carry a pre-paid phonecard to make emergency calls if your mobile is broken, lost or stolen.

Other tips include keeping a record of your numbers in case you lose your handset and carrying the phone in a closed pocket or bag to avoid loss or theft.

They add that you could also try to liberate yourself from the shackles of your mobile by simply switching it off.

Stop Complaining Guys...You Are Making It Worse

Moaning men are to blame for bad women drivers.

Men be warned: moaning to your wife while she is behind the wheel that women are terrible drivers will only make matters worse.

Research has found that women who are criticized while driving are more than twice as likely to make mistakes as those who have no "constructive criticism" from their male passengers.

Even subtle comments can lead to greater difficulties as the women get flustered or annoyed by the criticism.

Meanwhile, simply telling a woman that men make better drivers was enough to disturb their concentration and conform to the stereotype.

A psychologist who led the research, said: "When people are confronted with negative stereotypes about themselves they seem to experience an extra mental load, which can decrease their performance on a task. There can be subtle things happening in the environment while a woman is driving, like a male driver shaking his head when she tries to reverse park a car."

4 Steps To Falling Asleep

Here are four steps that will help you through the process of trying to fall asleep.

Take care of pressing business

First things first: The smallest issues, such as responding to an e-mail, can keep your mind alert enough to prevent you from relaxing. Before you try to fall sleep, make certain you have addressed anything -- any issue or pressing business -- that has the potential to nag at you.

Hide the alarm clock

We all know what it’s like to lie in bed and, every so often, glance at the clock and do the math: “1:00 I can still get five hours of sleep,” but that optimism soon turns to negotiation: “1:30 four and a half hours. If I skip a shower and don’t stop for coffee, I can still get five hours.” Two big problems accompany this: It is not the kind of mental activity that contributes to relaxation, and by trading away aspects of your morning routine, you severely compromise your entire day.

Quiet your mind

In order to quiet your mind, get ready to fall asleep with the firm conviction that whatever might be bothering you and causing your mind to race will be there tomorrow, and can wait until then to be addressed.

Follow a single image to sleep

Pick a soothing image -- something that brings you peace. It needs to have sufficient detail to keep your attention it’s OK for your mind to be active in this process -- just don’t let it be overactive. Your mind’s focus should be dedicated to the colors, shapes and slow, easy movement of this image. Best case scenario, your mind will succumb to the image and it will hypnotize you into sleep.
